Candidate Questionnaire
1) Bearing in mind that you run and serve as an individual, rather than representing an organization, is there an organizational/employer affiliation you’d like to state for identification purposes?

2) Are you available to serve the entirety of a three-year term?
Yes
3) Describe any limitations on your ability to travel to attend ARIN and ICANN meetings in person or participate in scheduled teleconference calls.
I don’t foresee any conflicts.
4) The ASO AC holds monthly conference calls and participation is expected of all members. Would participation in these calls present any issue for you?
I expect to be able to attend these monthly.
5) Why do you want to serve on the NRO NC, and what goals do you want to accomplish?
I find the NRO NC’s work interesting – working with other organizations worldwide in the best interests of the Internet. This is a particularly fascinating time right now with the work being done on ICP-2, and additional support for AFRINIC. There’s a very cool opportunity here to make a real positive change.
I have been an ARIN Fellow, and been an active participant in a number of ARIN meetings. In college, I majored in both Political Science and Rhetoric, before getting my Masters in Information Science (the study of how people search for, categorize, and use information) – I hadn’t realized at the time that all three of those aspects combine pretty nicely for an NRO NC candidate! I hope to use all my strengths to help in the ASO AC, and be a positive contributor on behalf of ARIN.
6) What, if any, conflicts of interest might arise for you as an NRO NC member? Specifically, do you serve in what could be perceived as any Internet governance roles, provide any services directly or indirectly to ARIN, or represent any significant interest from the community?
None that I know of!
7) What is your record of serving the Internet community in the ARIN region?
I have been an ARIN Fellow, which has spurred my further attendance and participation in ARIN. I have served as a member and Chair of the NANOG Program Committee, working to solicit and refine presentations designed to inform the network engineering community.
I have also served on the NANOG board as a non-voting member, due to my status as Chair of the Program Committee.
8) What participation do you have within ICANN, in the past and currently? Are you a member of any other ICANN AC or SO?
None, and no, sorry.
9) What differentiates you as a candidate, or makes you uniquely suited to serve on the NRO NC?
I have spent my entire career working in the higher education and non-profit space. I believe that we do important work and want to contribute to that effort. I enjoy actively engaging with my community and remain personally involved with it.
Throughout my career, I have sought to make a positive difference by volunteering for additional responsibilities within my community. I have been actively engaged for more than a decade with several special interest groups at Internet2. As the NANOG Program Committee chair, I have led and managed a diverse group of contributors.
I am currently a fourth-degree black belt in tae kwon do, and have experience taking a leadership role in that community as well. I have taught classes since I was about twelve years old, in several schools and styles of martial arts, and am well-regarded for my ability to be a positive and engaging instructor.
I genuinely enjoy working with the communities I hold dear, and hope to expand upon that as a member of the NRO NC.
10) Provide a brief biography of recent experience, associations, and affiliations relevant to serving on the NRO NC, including names of organizations, positions held, specific duties, and dates of service.
Adair Thaxton has a Master of Science degree in Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has spent the better part of two decades working in Information Technology Services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, moving from a part-time residential helpdesk employee to a senior network engineer. She joined Internet2 in 2018, where she currently serves as senior cyberinfrastructure security engineer, reflecting her passion for working within the higher education community. She has been on the NANOG Program Committee for four years, including one year as Vice-Chair and two years as Chair. While Chair, she have also served on the NANOG Board of Directors.
