The skills and experience that I bring are relevant to serving on the Board of Trustees of ARIN include executive not-for-profit leadership, financial expertise, strategic planning, governance, and legal. I have worked in the not for profit, research, and education space for 26 years, with considerable international collaboration. I am the VP, Legal and Corporate Governance at CANARIE, having previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for 15 years. CANARIE operates and evolves the national backbone of Canada’s ultrahigh-speed National Research and Education Network (NREN), connecting to 13 provincial and territorial partner networks.

As the executive responsible for supporting the CANARIE board, I understand and ensure best practices and board responsibility, evolution, and accountability. In my role at CANARIE, I participate in and lead a number of international initiatives, in support of global Research and Education Networking. These are all extremely relevant to my serving on the ARIN board, make me an effective trustee, and demonstrate that I am an integral part of the community that ARIN serves.

c) How does your past governance experience prepare you to help fulfill that role by serving as an ARIN Trustee?

My past governance experience has prepared me well for another term on the Board of Trustees. I have developed a strong understanding of good governance practices through my past board experiences, all of which I have brought to the ARIN Board table.

My professional background has added diversity to the Board and has been valuable in my role as Treasurer. I have served as Treasurer for the past 6 years and have supported evolution of the governance of ARIN for the past 4 years.

I am currently undertaking the Director Education Program offered by ICD-Rotman to further my governance expertise and background.

As well, and because it is relevant to ARIN, I am enrolled in ESG training.

6. Describe any past experience or involvement with ARIN or other Internet governance bodies.

I have been on the ARIN Board of Trustees for 6 years and have served on several committees over that time.

My involvement in CIRA has continued over many years and I am currently the Nomination Committee Chair.

I have been involved with the Canadian Internet Governance Forum for over 5 years.

7. Aside from any governance experience, describe your specific skills, background, and/or areas of expertise you believe will assist the Board in carrying out its duties.

The most important skills and background that I bring to the Board to assist in carrying out its duties are my proficiency in Financial Management / Investment Oversight, my legal and governance training, and my passion and commitment to life-long learning. These attributes are required at every Board table, and ARIN is no exception.

    As past president of CANARIE, I worked with Nancy for more than 13 years. I enjoyed working with her and also learned a lot along the way. I fully endorse her renewed appointment to the ARIN Board of Trustees as she has excellent knowledge of legal, finance, governance and operational considerations and has demonstrated that she can apply those skills to support ARIN and the community it serves.

    As a senior technical network person, I can attest that while Nancy has an often mentioned skillset in financial and legal, it’s important to highlight that throughout her 26-year career in the research and education space, Nancy has repeatedly demonstrated extensive technical understanding. I saw another recommendation highlighting her leadership in the adoption of MANRS, RPKI, IPv6… and would further state that as a leader she is fierce and motivational. I wholeheartedly support Nancy’s nomination for the ARIN Board of Trustees.
